A teleconference series exclusively for homecare and hospice aides has been scheduled starting September 10, 2009 and running through June 10, 2010. Each teleconference is scheduled from 3-4 p.m., the second Thursday of each month. Cost per agency/per phone line is just $100 for PHA members and $160 for non-members.

Each teleconference will include a powerpoint, post-questions and a free drawing for prizes. Conducted by registered nurses, the topics are varied and provide agencies with effective training at a reasonable cost. The Aide's Role in Caring for a Patient with a Wound Speaker: Jan Helsper, RN Description: According to the Wound Care Information Center, approximately five million Americans suffer from chronic open wounds. This is often due to limited blood flow which can slow the bodyÕs own healing process. Treating wounds effectively requires not only appropriate physician ordered wound care by the skilled disciplines, but also making sure the patient is well nourished, supported emotionally and pain controlled. This workshop will provide the aide information on the most common wound care types in home health, nutritional support, special wound prevention products and techniques, patient self-image, pain control needs and signs and symptoms to report to the Registered Nurse.
