The Aide's Role in Helping Patients with Parkinson's Disease Speaker: Jan Helsper, RN Description: ParkinsonŐs disease is a disorder that affects nerve cells in a part of the brain that controls muscle movement. As the disease progresses, the patient has trouble walking, talking, chewing, swallowing and performing other tasks that we take for granted. The aide plays a vital role in helping the patient and caregiver manage this devastating disease. This teleconference will allow the in-home aide to understand how the disease progresses and what role they play in assisting with the care of the patient in the home.
